Everyday life events and conditions, trauma and even ageing change and damage the tissues and cells, both on animals and humans. INDIBA is a technology that can target all these changes and restore them using a unique combination of effects. Curious? Keep reading.
The technology is based on a Radiofrequency (RF) current, that works in a closed circuit, and generates several biological effects in the tissue. Basically, INDIBA regulates and stimulates tissue cells to do what they normally do, but more efficiently. How? By using a specific frequency of 448 kHz, which regulates key biological and metabolic processes of cell physiology1; and the classic hyperthermia generated from the radiofrequency2,3,4. So, the treated tissues receive combined electrical and thermal stimulation with spectacular results.
Electrical Stimulation effects (subthermia)
The electrical stimulation, which we also call “subthermia”, comes from the specific frequency of 448 kHz, which can generate 3 effects at the cellular and molecular level1:
- Proliferation of stem cells and fibroblasts
- Differentiation of stem cells
- Antiproliferation (or pro-apoptotic) in damaged cells, such as tumour cells
Added to those 3 effects, it also stimulates tissue regeneration, the synthesis of the cartilaginous matrix, and increases microcirculation with immediate drainage effect1. All combined result in an accelerated repair of tissues injuries, pain and inflammation control.
In the clinical application these effects are useful for:
- Reabsorption of hematomas and edemas.
- Revascularization of skin grafts.
- Pain control (analgesic).
- Anti-inflammatory effect.
Because the radiofrequency at 448 kHz, used at very low power, does NOT cause an increase of temperature in the tissue (see Thermal Effects bellow), it CAN BE USED during the acute stages of an injury, immediately after surgery to accelerate recovery, or in any case that heat is contra-indicated, making RF 448 kHz an amazing ally in the earliest stages of treatment.

Thermal effects (hyperthermia)
INDIBA devices deliver the Radiofrequency current using a specific set of parameters: Intensity (amount of power) and time, which will interact with the resistance the tissues offer to the current. The electrical effects can be used without increasing the temperature when the intensity setting in the device is very low. When the intensity of the current is increased, the temperature in the tissue rises due to the resistance of that tissue to the current, called the Joule effect, with the following results2,3,4:
- Increase of the blood supply to the treated area and drainage.
- Oxygen, more nutrients, and other elements arrive from the immune system.
- Removal of metabolites and liquid excess to reduce inflammation and oedema.
- Major pain control.

The Joule effect follows Joule’s Law, which states that heat (H) depends on the intensity (I) of the RF current, the resistance (R) of the tissue to that current, and the time (t) that the tissue is exposed to that current.
In other words, as you increase power and/or time, and the more resistant the tissue is to RF, the higher the temperature generated.
Added to the electrical and thermal effect, a third important aspect of INDIBA’s technology is that it works in a closed circuit, which means it can go deeper, and in a non-invasive way, than any other technology. Therefore, it can reach structures that would be impossible to reach any other way without being invasive5,6. Understanding these basics of physics is crucial to understanding how INDIBA works and to perform the best treatments.
